In-vehicle technology vital to tackling speeding in Europe
Following the adoption in 2019 of the new EU Regulation “General Safety Regulation” 2019/2144, all new cars, vans, lorries and buses sold in Europe will have to be fitted with a package of new vehicle safety features as standard, starting in 2022. TRL has estimated that the package will avoid 25,000 deaths and 140,000 serious injuries over 15 years. The list of technologies includes Intelligent Speed Assistance.
Excessive speed is the single biggest contributory factor in fatal road crashes, and ISA is expected to reduce road deaths by 20%. https://etsc.eu/intelligent-speed-assistance-isa/
